Get your invoices paid on time without chasing clients
The problem
You sent the invoice. Now you wait. And whether you get paid depends on each client remembering to pay.
When they forget, the work lands on you: check the due date, write the reminder, send the awkward email, send it again. Your cash flow isn't set by your billing, it's set by someone else's memory. That's time you don't bill and a call you'd rather not make.
The goal of this guide is simple: get your invoices paid on time on their own, without you chasing anyone.
How Frihet solves it, step by step
1. Send the invoice with the way to pay built in
Every invoice you issue carries a Stripe payment link with a QR code. The client opens the email, scans or taps, and pays by card. No instructions, no manual transfer, no "what was your IBAN again?".
For SEPA payments in euros, the invoice can also include a SEPA EPC QR code (EPC069-12 standard), available from 33 SEPA-zone countries. The client scans it with their banking app and the transfer comes prefilled.
The fewer steps between the client and paying, the sooner you get paid.
2. Give them a portal where they can pay without signing up
The client doesn't create an account or remember passwords. Every invoice has a public portal reached through a signed link (HMAC), no login. There they see the invoice, its status, and pay.
If you work with recurring clients, the self-service portal gathers their invoices, quotes, payments and statement in one place. Fewer questions over chat, fewer "send me last month's again".
3. Let dunning do the chasing for you
This is the core. Frihet includes automated dunning built on a state machine: define the sequence once and the system sends payment reminders based on each invoice's due date. Before it's due, when it's due, and at the intervals you set afterwards.
These aren't manual reminders. It's a ladder of notices that runs on its own in the background. You touch nothing; the client gets the reminder on time, in the right tone, with the payment link inside.
For the ones who run late, you can apply late-payment fees to the invoice. Interest stops being a threat you never follow through on and becomes a rule the system enforces.
4. Know when they pay, without checking the bank
When the client pays through Stripe, the payment is recorded in Frihet. Stripe income sync imports the movements on a regular schedule, so the invoice status reflects reality without you reconciling by hand.
And if you want to know who owes you without opening reports, just ask the AI copilot (55+ tools): plain-language business queries like "show me this month's overdue invoices". It answers with the data, not with a menu.
5. Wire it into your own flow (for technical teams)
If you build your own software, don't sit watching a screen. Frihet emits webhooks for payment events: 94 event types, with HMAC-SHA256 verification and retries. When an invoice is paid, your system knows instantly and triggers whatever you need: notify your team, update a CRM, provision a service.
To automate the full workflow (create invoices, list late payers, launch collections) there's the official MCP server, @frihet/mcp-server, with 157 tools. Your assistant or your script talks to Frihet directly.
An example
Marta is a freelance designer in Valencia. She bills net-30 to half a dozen clients. Every month-end she lost an afternoon checking who had paid and writing reminders one by one.
Now her invoices go out with a payment link and QR. She set up dunning once: a notice three days before the due date, one on the due date, and one seven days late. Invoices that pass that point get a late-payment fee.
A client who used to pay after 50 days now pays on the second reminder, because tapping the link is easier than ignoring it. Marta hasn't written a single reminder this quarter. The "did they pay me?" afternoon is gone: she checks the dashboard in ten seconds, or asks the copilot.
